I’m hoping someone here can give me some perspective. I’ve been getting calls from a debt collector called Armstrong & Associates about an old medical bill. I’m not trying to dodge the bill, but I just can’t pay the full amount right now.
The issue is the way they are contacting me. They call my cell phone constantly, sometimes twice in ten minutes. I answered once to ask them to stop calling my work number, and the person just talked over me and demanded payment. It felt really disrespectful and intimidating.
It’s gotten so bad that my partner is stressed out every time the phone rings. I started searching online to see if this was just how collections work or if this was too much, and I found this page that breaks down the laws around it.
Apparently, calling this frequently and contacting me at work after I asked them not to might actually be illegal harassment under the FDCPA. I honestly didn’t know there were rules against this stuff.
Has anyone dealt with this specific agency? Is this just their standard playbook, or am I right to feel like they’re crossing a line? I’m thinking about sending a certified letter telling them to stop calling me, but I’m not sure if that makes things better or worse. Any thoughts?
