I’m trying to be smart about this instead of just handing over money to the first shop I find but honestly the more I read the more confused I get. My 2017 Kia Sportage’s battery is showing clear signs of weakness lately. The engine cranks slowly on cold mornings and the other day the radio reset itself which I’ve heard can happen when voltage drops too low. I know I need to replace it soon but I have no idea what specs actually matter for my car. Some people tell me to look at cold cranking amps, others say reserve capacity is more important for the heat here, and a few have mentioned that the battery group size has to match exactly otherwise the hold down clamp won’t fit properly. I came across a service that calls themselves Kia battery replacement specialists Sharjah and they claim they know exactly which batteries work best for Korean cars but I’m not sure if that’s just marketing talk or if there’s real value there. Does anyone know if Kia vehicles are particularly sensitive to battery types or will any decent brand with the right size work fine? Also I’ve noticed my Sportage has a start stop system that I actually hate and usually turn off manually every time I drive. Does that system require a special AGM battery or can I get away with a standard flooded one since I never use the feature anyway? Really don’t want to overspend on features I don’t need but also don’t want to end up with electrical issues down the road. Would appreciate any advice from Kia owners who have already been through this and figured out what works best.
